Bring down the Curtain !
In Avignon on 23rd September 2017 the curtain majestically fell on this 3D World Archery Championships. The end of this incredible adventure will be long remembered with a proud feeling of having produced an enormous international event. It began with an impressive opening ceremony in Robion on 18th September. A procession of hundreds of archers made their way through the streets leading up to the Theatre de Verdure, forming a tidal wave of colour beneath 30 flags from around the world, reunited in honour of this occasion in our village. The intensity of the last 10 days expended every last available ounce of physical and nervous energy but the exhaustion was quickly forgotten in the achievement of the ultimate aim, that of bringing these championships to a successful close. The French team climbed the podium on five occasions to receive their prizes.
We wish to thank all the volunteers from all over France and the “Robionais” who invested their time and energy in our project, including the Municipal and Technical Services who were open to all our demands often acting in urgency to fulfil our requirements.
We cannot forget the generosity of the proprietors of the “gîtes” who kindly accommodated our volunteers and the landowners who lay open their land to 320 archers from all across the world and who contributed in their own right, to the success of this crazy business !
