In three weeks’ time the World3D Archery Championships will begin in Robion and the President of the Organising Committee, Michel Daumas is closely monitoring the progress being made in the organization of this event.

Michel, can you give us an update on the preparations for the Championships?

MD: Everything is progressing well… For the finals we are producing a streaming of images with World Archery TV on YouTube. France Television should then show them on TV Sport, France 3 should also be coming and of course we will be filming a complete coverage of the entire week’s events. We have also finalized the positioning of the grandstand for 600 people with a VIP area and all the amenities are ready. We currently have sufficient numbers of volunteers but we are happy to receive further offers of help. My one disappointment is in the poor financial participation in the collective funding of these championships by Fosburit crowd-funding scheme. In view of the number of archers in France, I am astonished by this lack of interest.

And with regards to the delegations?

MD: The delegations are now all enrolled. There are 31 to date, comprising 360 archers and officials. The logistics for all this is far from easy, especially for the meal boxes! In terms of transport, a lot of delegations are coming with their own vehicles. For the remainder, well, it will be alright on the day!

Tell us about the shooting ranges…

MD: The shooting ranges have all been finalized for some time now. Natur’foam has already supplied an example of each target and we expect the rest to arrive at the beginning of September. The Groups 4s, according to regulations, should be doubled up but we have decided that wherever possible, we will put them in fours and each archer will have his own target. There will be no question of passing off our neighbour’s arrow as of being our own! The 4 targets, side by side, will be clearly marked A, B, C, and D.

So everything is ready for the championships…

MD: We have just one worry which concerns us at the moment, regarding the restrictions of access put into place during this period of drought conditions. Unfortunately, in recent weeks, there have been some outbreaks of forest fires not far from Robion. The championships’ site is in a zone at risk and we really need two or three days of rainfall at the beginning of September to alleviate this problem! We have every authorization to work in this area ahead of the championships. Of course, all cigarettes, smoking devices and electric cigarettes are total prohibited in this zone. So there we are…now we’re chomping at the bit, waiting for the start of the competition and working away on every last detail…
