The World Archery 3D Championships which are to be held from 19th to 24th September in Robion are to be essentially an environmentally friendly event literally from the grass roots! A number of measures, choices and actions taken, will mean that these championships are firmly orientated towards green awareness.
The club will also contribute to the maintenance of the site which is to be set out with the various ranges. “For this sport which takes place in the natural environment, it is very important to thoroughly clean and look after the sites.” Michel Daumas, the President of the Organising Committee explains. “Besides which, the more the zone is kept clean, the pleasanter it will be and everyone can benefit from this in the future.”
An archer and club member, herbalist and nature lover warned that care was needed to ensure that certain wild orchids and an eagle’s nest situated in this zone should not be disturbed. To this end the position of the shooting ranges has been changed from the initial planned site.
Another preoccupation for the organisers is the risk of fire in the Luberon Natural Park. To reduce this danger, cigarettes and electric cigarettes will be strictly forbidden during the competition. In addition to which a security check-in point will also be installed on the site.
The Championship Organisers have made every effort to work, in the main, with people from the region. Local producers, shopkeepers and restaurant owners will prepare the daily meal packs and those for the Saturday competitions will be put together by some of the most celebrated chefs of the region. Of course, all the packaging and waste material will be taken for recycling.
It goes without saying that respect for the environment is of paramount importance but, after all, is this notion of respect not, in fact, fundamental to all archers?
