3D World Championships :
Despite his youth, Robin Gardeur needs no introduction. He has acquired an impressive track record in both national and international events. We were able to meet him just after his shoot during the French Open and it was interesting to hear his views on the next 3D WorldChampionships in Robion.
What do you hope for from this World Championships in Robion ?
RG: Little by little, over a number of years, I have progressed in the ratings. In 2002 at the European Championships, I finished in 16th place, 12th in the 2013 World Championships… I finished 5th in the last World, 4th in the 2016 European. Every year I have moved up a few places and in 2017 I would really love to climb the steps of the podium for an individual prize, at least the third position. I don’t imagine that I would win a title but I’d love to get up on that podium!
And in terms of team achievement ?
RG: I also train for team events. I’m not always at the peak of my performance for this type of event. It’s a bit difficult for me. I work on this a lot and I take part in the Open to get myself prepared for it, to integrate into the team and to shoot the arrow that makes the difference. If I finish in the first class of the Individual World Championships, I will find myself in a team and I have to be capable of shooting well.
You have to get through the qualifying rounds and that’s not always easy..?
RG: Generally, I’m good in the qualifying rounds. I can control my stress level but, on the other hand, I have more difficulty in the “one shots” due to a lack of practice. I train a lot at home, with a single arrow, on a little archery range. I have also taken up field archery to improve my precision, to shoot better with the second arrow which I tend to shoot too quickly. The fact that one has to shoot three arrows in field archery demands a lot more concentration on the second arrow as I know that there is a third one to follow, on which I must also concentrate! So I use everything around me to prepare for the World Championships.
Are you very motivated for this Home event ?
RG: It is in France. I love my country… It takes place in Robion, a beautiful club, in beautiful surroundings which I appreciate very much. I have a lot of friends here and it was here that I competed in my second French Championship. Robion is important to me and I want to make an impression. I believe it’s the right time for me and I’m approaching this Championship in a different way to the others.
Which is ?
RG: Ever since I’ve known that the Championship would take place in Robion, I have prepared myself.
First of all I must get through the selection then I will focus on the World Championships because I want to do this without enormous pressure, without saying to myself that I must win, that I want to be World Champion! I wish to enjoy myself and the scores will reflect that. I shoot from the heart and I want to live this Championship from the heart! I want to live IT!
